In 1919, Otto Bock founded Orthopädische Industrie GmbH – a bona-fide startup in today’s terms – in the Kreuzberg district of Berlin. By introducing the fabrication of components for prostheses, the company succeeded in fundamentally changing the entire field of orthopaedic technology.

Today, Ottobock is a partnership limited by shares and is not listed on the stock exchange (SE & Co. KGaA). 100 per cent of the shares are held by Näder Holding, which is owned by the Näder family.
