Noticeable relief in case of neurological disorders
New generation of the exopulse suit reduces spasticity and relieves pain

Tuesday, 24 June 2025
In July, Ottobock is launching the second generation of an innovative medical device in selected markets, designed to sustainably improve the everyday life of people with neurological disorders: The exopulse suit is intended for children and adults with cerebral palsy (CP), multiple sclerosis (MS), stroke sufferers and people with fibromyalgia. Thanks to targeted, gentle electrical stimulation via 50 embedded electrodes, the suit can reduce spasticity and effectively relieve pain – fast, non-invasive and drug-free.
“In the exopulse suit, I have finally found a device that significantly relieves my spasticity – and I have to wear it for just one hour every other day,” says Ricky from Southern Germany, who has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis since 2012. The 37-year-old is a registered nurse, father of three children and a passionate handcyclist. “I move more freely, my balance has become more stable and I even find it a lot easier to climb stairs. The suit helps me stay active, enjoy time with my kids and be more self-determined in my daily life. For me, that’s true quality of life.”
Comfortable, easy-to-use design
Ottobock has fundamentally reworked the design and technology of its neuromodulation suit to make it even more user-friendly and effective. Like its predecessor model, the Exopulse Molli Suit, the new generation also consists of a jacket and trousers. The single-layer fabric makes the suit easier to put on and take off, ensures a better fit and is comfortable to wear.
Thanks to a new electrode concept, it is now possible to activate more muscles overall and target muscles more accurately. A total of 50 electrodes integrated into the fabric stimulate up to 122 muscles or the 42 most important muscle functions, depending on personal requirements. This enables nearly whole-body stimulation.
The new exopulse suit has two rechargeable control units that are easy to attach to the jacket and trousers via a docking station. Personal stimulation is controlled via a newly developed app. Specially trained employees of medical supply companies first program an individual stimulation pattern according to the diagnosis and personal requirements. Users can then start this themselves with just the push of a button on their smartphone. The recommended application is 60 minutes every other day, unless otherwise prescribed. To respond even better to their individual needs on a given day, users can make minor adjustments to the stimulation intensity themselves via the app.
Scientifically proven. And personally experienced.
Numerous studies confirm the effects of the exopulse suit: The gentle electrical impulses can relax spastic muscles, (re)activate weak muscle groups and relieve pain. This improves balance and mobility – factors that have a direct impact on the well-being and quality of life of people with neurological indications. There are also promising results for fibromyalgia: In a recent study, 78 percent of the participants showed a significant improvement in their overall clinical impression after just one month of daily application. Symptoms such as chronic pain, fatigue and depressive moods decreased measurably.
Ricky, who has been dependent on a wheelchair or crutches since autumn 2019, shows just how noticeable this effect can be in everyday life. “Directly after testing the suit for the first hour at the medical supply company, I could feel my legs better and movements were easier. The feeling of heaviness was still there, but I suddenly felt like I could control my movements more,” he recalls. Climbing stairs in particular was much easier for him: “I found it much easier to bend my knees and negotiating the steps was much smoother.”
For Ricky, the neuromodulation suit is more than just a device. It helps him not let his limitations dictate him: “No two days with MS are the same. However, you shouldn't let yourself be defined by what you can't do. I push myself to my limits and make the most of life, disability and all.”
The new generation of the exopulse suit will be available in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and the Benelux region from July 2025. Further information and trial fittings are available from qualified medical supply companies.
