With the official launch of the IX BACK VOLTON in early November 2025, SUITX by Ottobock successfully tested its new exoskeleton in real-world conditions together with logistics provider DACHSER. The initiative was supported by actor and fitness icon Ralf Moeller, who provided valuable insights as brand ambassador. During DACHSER’s Health Week at its Hochfranken site in Germany, Moeller engaged with employees and experienced firsthand how advanced technology can make daily work easier. This joint field test sent a strong signal for innovation and proactive health management in logistics. Moeller had already introduced the beta version of the smart exoskeleton to a broad audience at Hannover Messe in March 2025.

Ergonomics in Action: Exchange with Ralf Moeller

As brand ambassador for SUITX by Ottobock, Ralf Moeller brought a touch of Hollywood to Hof in Upper Franconia. At DACHSER’s logistics center, he met employees, learned about their daily routines, and tested the new IX BACK VOLTON together with them. “A strong back is the foundation for an active life – whether in sports or at work. The IX BACK VOLTON shows how modern technology can provide targeted support and help people stay fit and productive well into older age,” said Moeller.

The visit focused on sharing experiences with exoskeletons, including a conversation with Fabian Hahn, a logistics specialist who has been using SUITX by Ottobock exoskeletons for three years, especially when unloading containers. “I used to work without an exoskeleton. Today, I feel the difference – especially when I get home in the evening. The relief is tremendous,” Hahn explained.

Health First: Exoskeletons at DACHSER

Since 2023, DACHSER has been using SUITX by Ottobock exoskeletons in regular operations at several German sites. These ergonomic solutions assist employees with lifting, carrying, and moving heavy loads, for example during order picking or container unloading. The devices can be ordered directly via DACHSER’s internal shop, just like personal protective equipment or workwear.

The test of the new IX BACK VOLTON with Ralf Moeller highlighted how the technology is already integrated into daily workflows and the difference it makes for employees. “My team should feel good – when they get home and even into retirement,” emphasized Klaus Neubing, General Manager DACHSER Hochfranken. Christian Richter, Project Coordinator, added: “Employee health at our sites is a top priority, including for senior management. Exoskeletons play a key role in that.”

Smart Technology: The IX BACK VOLTON

With the launch of the IX BACK VOLTON in November 2025, SUITX by Ottobock introduced an intelligent, battery-powered exoskeleton that reduces strain on the lower back by up to 17 kilograms per lift. Thanks to integrated sensors, the system automatically adapts to the user, enabling intuitive operation throughout an entire shift.

“Weighing just 4.8 kilograms, the IX BACK VOLTON is the lightest battery-powered exoskeleton in its class worldwide,” said David Duwe, Vice President SUITX by Ottobock Europe. “And the best part: our new exoskeleton thinks along with you. It detects body movements and provides support exactly where it’s needed – without restricting natural motion. The result is noticeable relief with full freedom of movement.”

About “SUITX by Ottobock”
Since 2012, SUITX has been developing support structures worn on the body, known as exoskeletons, to make everyday working life easier for physically labouring people. SUITX emerged from the Robotics and Human Engineering Laboratory at the University of California, Berkeley. At the end of 2021, the Ottobock medical technology company and SUITX joined forces to develop pioneering exoskeletons as “SUITX by Ottobock”. Highly efficient and very light, these exoskeletons prevent musculoskeletal disorders caused by heavy physical labour. www.suitx.com
