Ottobock helps secure Paralympic Games dreams
The medtech company will be attending the Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games as a technical partner

Saturday, 6 September 2025
On 6 March 2026, the Paralympic Winter Games will officially open at the Arena di Verona, showcasing sporting excellence amidst an unparalleled backdrop: the urban flair of Milan, the alpine magic of the Dolomites and the passion of around 600 athletes from all over the world.
For many of the athletes, it is essential that their devices are in good shape to ensure they can compete. To help remedy this situation, Ottobock will once again be at their side as an official technical partner in 2026.
Technical service forms the backbone of the Paralympic Games
For decades, the German medtech company has been enabling athletes to compete fully, regardless of the type or the manufacturer of their devices. The service is free of charge and, in 2026, will be provided by a team of 87 people from 16 nations who collectively speak 15 languages. Our team of wheelchair-, prosthesis- and orthosis specialists, supported by other experts, will be on hand 24/7 to deal with any issues, such as loose screws, torn straps or the need for replacement parts.
“The Paralympic Winter Games always present a particular challenge to our technicians because the devices are often highly individual and not at all like those used in everyday life. But that's what makes it so exciting. Our team is fully prepared," explains Peter Franzel, Head of Global Events, Exhibitions & Sports.
Repair Service Centers in three villages and fast assistance directly on the slopes
The decentralised structure of these Games requires special logistical operations, including three Athletes' Villages in Milan, Cortina and Predazzo, each hosting a large Repair Service Center covering up to 160 m². In addition, there will be small repair stations directly at the competition venues – whether on the ski slopes, the downhill slopes or at the ice rink of the para ice hockey field. Even if a problem occurs seconds before an event starts, or if something breaks during a para ice hockey match, for example, the Ottobock experts will be on hand to help. Although all Repair Service Centers are essentially equipped in the same way, the spare parts are specific to the sport.
Celebrating an anniversary in the Dolomites
The Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games are more than a major sporting event – they mark 50 years since the first Paralympic Winter Games were held. With 79 medals up for grabs across six sports, Milano Cortina will set the stage for unforgettable moments, courtesy of the athletes who have earned their place at the biggest winter sports arena.
“After hosting events in PyeongChang and Beijing, the Paralympic Winter Games are finally returning to Europe,” says Peter Franzel. “The fusion of urban life in Milan and Alpine tradition in Cortina is what makes these Winter Games so unique. We are looking forward to immersing ourselves in the atmosphere.”
