On 16th September 2025, Leading professionals in neuro-orthotics explored at an online symposium the preliminary pilot data of an Exopulse Molli Suit clincial trial. Amongst others the event highlighted the recent interim results of the C-Brace registry as well as the importance of the CPO for patient care.

C-Brace: Where traditional stability meets smart mobility.

For Christiaan Mertens, Clinical Expert Orthotics at VIGO ottobock.care, Wetteren, Belgium, the central question when talking about C-Brace is not how to make technology more appealing to the CPO, but how to make them realize that embracing innovation is essential to provide best possible care.

Mertens emphaszised the decisive role CPOs play, as they largely determine which solutions are offered to patients. If they only rely on etablished habits, patient risk of missing out on new, potentional superior opportunities. Only by being open to remaining technological progress and innovative products, a CPO can fully embrace their role as gatekeeper of quality care.

He further explained that the dynamic interaction between CPOs and rehabilitation centers reinforces this process – the more knowledge and experience the CPO gain with innovative solutions, the faster these are spread within rehabilitation practices. This creates a strengthening effect in which doctors, CPOs, and physiotherapists collectively elevate the quality of care.

To illustrate the impact of the C-Brace, Mertens shared a case of a 38-year old patient with Limb-Gridl-Muscular-Dystrophy. The patient reported improvements in walking, sitting, stair and slope mobility after switching to C-Brace, describing the transition as “a big step forward” that brought not only greater mobility but also increased independence and peace of mind.

Insights of the clinical practise with C-Brace.

Russ Lundstrom, Director Field Clinical Specialist from Ottobock North America, presented interim results of the international C-Brace registry. It was designed to gather long-term, real world safety and effectivness data in patients fit with the leg orthosis. So far interim results from a really diverse sample with 46 patients from 29 sites of the US and Europe are available.

In routine clinical practise, significant and meaningful improvements with C-Brace 6 to 12 month after fitting were observed, compared to a KAFO (Knee-Ankle-Foot Orthosis). Improvements show an increased walking speed, walking capability and and patient-perceived balance confidence with both a reduction in the risk of falling and actual fall events. So C-Brace is an effective option to improve safety and mobility for patients needing a KAFO for walking, Lundstrom conluded.

First pilot data of clinical trial with Exopulse Molli Suit.

Lars Hvid,Senior Researcher at the Danish MS Hospitals, Ry and Haslev, and his team assessing the impact of a randomized 6-week Exopulse Molli Suit intervention in patients with MS having ataxia, spasticity and motor impairments of their limbs.

Pilot data from five subjects is currentlly available, showing promissing improvements in physical performance across both primary and secondary outcomes. In his presentation, Hvid emphasized the importance of the trial to determine which patients are responders from a clinical perspective.

He summarized that, based on the preliminary pilot data, Ottobock's neuromodulation suit appears to be effective in improving both lower and upper extremity motor function along with some corresponding patient-reported outcomes. The next steps for him and his team are now to carry out and finalize their clincial randomized controlled trial, evaluating the suits effect on ataxia and spasticity and try to determine the responders.

Wrap up.

The online symposium offered valuable insights into how real world evidence actually aligns with findings from earlier C-Brace studies. Further it was elucidated that creating not only information but also experience to CPOs is essential to making evidence available, expanding boundries, overcoming established habits to provide more treatment options. Additionally the latest updates from Denmark and Belgium were presented, basically showcasing the next stage of clinical research on Exopulse Molli Suit in a real world rehabilitation setting.
