About the Exopulse Mollii Suit

The superhero suit that combats spasticity

The world's first neuromodulation suit can help people with neurological diseases, such as cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis or stroke, live a more active everyday life.

At the touch of a button, the Suit can reduce spasticity and related pain and activate muscle groups after a brief period of stimulation. In addition, the Exopulse Mollii Suit can improve mobility, balance and blood circulation as well as everyday movements such as walking and grasping. Users who share their experiences with the “superhero suit” also report better sleep, easier breathing and having to take fewer medications.

After I used it, it was the first night I could sleep through the night after the stroke.

Functionality

Exopulse Technology

  • The Exopulse Molli Suit is a user-friendly neuromodulation suit, consisting of a jacket, trousers and a removable control unit.

  • 58 electrodes embedded in the suit stimulate spastic muscle groups as needed.

  • An electrical signal sent to an antagonistic muscle relaxes the spastic muscle. When the biceps tense up, for example, the suit stimulates the triceps to relax the biceps.

  • Spasticity and related pain can be reduced and muscle groups (re)activated.

  • The suit function is based on the "carry-over effect": muscles remain relaxed after use until the next stimulation.

  • The Exopulse Mollii Suit is worn for one hour every other day (unless otherwise prescribed).

  • The suit's mode of action is non-invasive and non-medicinal and therefore gentle on the user.

“Superhero outfit” improves Justus' gait for the next journey of discovery

7-year-old Justus lives with his family and therapy dog Nela in the countryside near Göttingen in Germany. At just 18 months old he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy with moderate limitation of mobility (level 2-3).

In his spare time, when he is not driving or enjoying a ride on a tractor, he likes to train for his first swimming badge. To help him learn how to move independently and safely at home, Justus wears the Exopulse Mollii Suit for one hour a day based on the recommendations given to him by his therapist. This so-called neuromodulation suit is designed to relax tense or spastic muscles with the aid of electrostimulation, stimulate weak muscles and reduce associated pain.

The Exopulse Mollii Suit has not only helped Justus to improve his foot position and gait, as his mother Nicola explains: “We have seen a rapid improvement in dexterity. In particular, his attempts to use a fork to pick up food have become much more focused.”

Kerstin has less spasticity pain and an improved quality of life

Kerstin was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis when she was only 17. Her condition has deteriorated so much that she is permanently dependent on a wheelchair. Pain is with her constantly. Kerstin had to take up to 30 tablets and medical anaesthetic substances every day.

Now 40 years old, she learned about Ottobock’s Exopulse Mollii Suit on Instagram and tried it out. Kerstin was overwhelmed by the results, experiencing considerably less pain and spasticity. The neuromodulation suit even lets her go on holiday with her family again.
