New anchor tenant Sartorius at Bötzow site

Innovative work spaces in historical brewery buildings

Bötzow Berlin GmbH & Co. KG, owned by Ottobock head Professor Hans Georg Näder, is getting a new anchor tenant – the life sciences company Sartorius. The spaces rented by Sartorius are in one of the seven historical buildings on the Bötzow site, which Näder has been developing since 2012 based on a master plan by star architect David Chipperfield.

The areas in the industrial style typical for the complex are on the ground floor, 1st floor and 2nd floor and encompass 2,710 square metres. Another 313 square metres of storage space is available below ground. Sartorius, which is listed on the MDAX and TecDAX, will be using this location to pursue technology and business development activities for innovative life sciences and biopharmaceutical applications. Renovations are expected to be completed by the end of 2022. The Sartorius start-up LabTwin previously moved into office space at the Bötzow site in the summer of 2018, in Tim Raue's former restaurant "La Soupe Populaire".

"Sartorius is a perfect fit for the nature of Bötzow. All of us here are driven by creativity and a pioneering spirit to develop innovations and offer something new," says Professor Näder, Ottobock shareholder and Chairman of the Management Board. "We already have a close, long-term partnership with Sartorius in the South Lower Saxony region. I am pleased that we are now extending this to the capital city."

The Bötzow site is located at the corner of Saarbrücker Straße and Prenzlauer Allee, one of the main routes in Berlin's trendy Prenzlauer Berg neighbourhood. In addition to living, co-working and cultural spaces, a beer garden and boutique hotel are also being established on the site. "We want to transform this site into a genuine 'Kiez' (Berlin slang for neighbourhood), with open gastronomy and a beer garden. That will be the next step in the construction phase," explains Professor Hans Georg Näder.
