Despite global Microchip crisis – production at Ottobock continues

Whether for medical technology, automobiles or consoles: Microchips are in short supply all over the world. And that includes Vienna, where we build the majority of our mechatronic prostheses.

One reason for this is the increased demand for digital equipment during the Corona pandemic. The good news is: We have an adequate supply in stock. So unlike many companies, production at Ottobock continues. With the microchips we have in stock, you can still control prostheses via smartphone, for example.

No limitations for our users

These chips work with Android devices; until the chip shortage ends, Apple users will be provided with an Android smartphone together with their prosthesis if necessary. There are no further limitations. Our Purchasing and Research & Development departments are working to keep it that way. Safety and performance are not affected.
