“TOP TRAINING”

IHK confirms quality seal

Three years after the first certification, the Hannover Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) once again certifies Ottobock the highest quality of training. The awarding of the TOP AUSBILDER certificate took place on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, during a festive meeting at the Max-Näder-Haus in Duderstadt.

“The right employee in the right place” – this motto has long shaped Ottobock's corporate philosophy. Of course, this also includes investing in the training of tomorrow's employees and offering them the best possible quality of training.

A total of 25 apprenticeships are currently available at Ottobock. From orthopaedic engineering to computer science and commercial professions. A team of eight full-time colleagues is responsible for the apprentices, interns and working students, helps with questions related to their education and supports them with their entry into professional life.

Quality seal TOP AUSBILDER

Labour market conditions for newcomers and their expectations of their training time have changed noticeably in recent years. Apprentices are now paying increasing attention to whether their future employer offers further training programmes, leisure and health services or whether there is, for example, the possibility of a stay abroad.

The Ottobock training team has taken up this challenge and has expanded and adapted the training offer in many ways in recent years. In order to position itself optimally in the competition for the best young talents and to discover further potential for improvement, Ottobock also decided three years ago to have the quality of training evaluated and certified by the IHK Hannover as part of the TOP AUSBILDUNG program. TOP AUSBILDUNG takes a holistic view of the training process. Both the training marketing/recruiting as well as the start of the training itself, the organisation and implementation of the training as well as the examination and completion of the training/personnel development are reviewed. Data is collected and evaluated on the basis of a comprehensive audit. At the end – after successful verification – is the TOP AUSBILDUNG certificate, which Ottobock has also officially borne since 2019.

Successful recertification

The TOP TRAINING quality seal is valid for three years. Thereafter, a recertification process is required, in which the training standards and the development goals set are re-evaluated.

Arne Jörn (COO/CTO at Ottobock) opened the ceremony for the presentation of the recertification certificate: “The subject of training has a long tradition here – like the company itself.“ In his address, he praised the work of the full-time and part-time trainers, stressed the importance of high-quality training for the success of a company and recalled his own training period.

“We look back on three successful years”, said Ottobock Head of Training Stefanie Senhen with regard to the milestones achieved. “Although Corona made some adjustments necessary, we still made good use of the time.” Digital formats for communication and recruiting have been introduced. Examples of this are the Insights@Ottobock podcast or the development of the Instagram channel “@ottobock_karriere.” Since 2019, Ottobock has been offering apprentices with good performance a transfer guarantee. In the same year the training workshop was established in Duderstadt. Berlin was added as an apprenticeship location, the range of apprenticeships was expanded, the number of apprenticeships and the salary for apprentices was increased – to name just a few examples.

This also convinced the IHK. “First of all, the very high quality of the training, the individual support of the trainees, as well as the respectful, open cooperation at Ottobock should be highlighted”, said Prof. Dr. Günter Hirth, Head of Vocational Education and Training at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Hannover, summarizing the impressions from the recertification audit. Addressing the trainers and trainees present, he added: “ “The audit is demanding. Companies that bear this seal have been investing successfully in high quality training for many years. In this case, it was not difficult for the audit team to award the company with the TOP AUSBILDUNG seal for another three years.”
